This blog post is part two of two (read part one here) that is dedicated to helping you be prepared for the unexpected. Now that you’ve reviewed your insurance coverage the next step in being prepared is making sure you are protecting you, your family and your assets.
Potential Risk of a Coverage Gap
Your homeowner’s insurance policy typically includes coverage for most major disasters, such as fire, lightening, wind, hail, tornadoes, etc.; but there are some losses that are not covered. Sewer back-up, earthquake and flood losses are not typically included.
Sewer back-up and earthquake coverage can be added to your homeowner’s policy, but flood insurance requires a separate policy. If you would like to review your current coverage and get proposals for additional protection, please get in touch with your agent.
Personal Umbrella Insurance
What is Personal Umbrella Insurance? It is liability protection beyond your basic policies, such as homeowners, auto, renters, etc. It helps protect your assets and future earnings, and pays for defense costs, in the event you are sued.
Do I need it? Yes! Insurance policies only protect so much. In the event you are sued or involved in a large claim, an Umbrella policy extends that protection, which will help retain your home and other assets.
Life Insurance – Business Owners
Approximately forty-percent of Americans don’t have life insurance. If you are a business owner, life insurance is important to financially protect your family and business. If there is business debt, your family can use the policy money to help pay off the debt and keep the business viable.
Disability Insurance
Your most important asset is not your car, house or other possessions. It is your ability to earn income. What happens if you are no longer able to do that? An accident or illness that causes disability can prevent you from earning an income. Disability insurance can provide income in the short- and long-term if you are unable to work.
