Time to do an insurance check before you go.
It’s November in Wisconsin. The leaves are off the trees, the weather is turning cooler and before we know it there will be snow on the ground. Sounds like a good time to head South, right? And that’s just what many Wisconsinites do every winter.
If you are one of those lucky individuals getting ready to head South, it’s important to take some time to talk with your insurance agent to make sure your policies are up-to-date for the months you are away. Here are some common things to consider.
- Rent or own? If you own a second home, make sure your policy is up-to-date. Do you rent your home when you’re not there? Talk with your agent to see if you need additional insurance. If you rent a place, see if renters insurance is a good fit to protect the belongings you bring.
- Car insurance. Before making the long road trip South, make sure your auto policies are current. Also, if you keep a car at your second home, communicate with your agent that you’ll be driving it on a regular basis for the next few months.
- Life insurance. If you don’t currently have life insurance, now’s the time to consider it. Since you’ll be away from home for a few months be sure to check that your beneficiaries are up-to-date. This is also a good time to communicate with family about your advanced directives (living will and healthcare power of attorney) in case you have a health concern while you’re away.
- Keep in touch. Let your insurance agent know your new address and phone number in case they need to contact you or handle a claim.
If you’re heading South soon, enjoy your trip. But before you go, contact your Meyer Insurance agent for a policy review for peace-of-mind while you’re away.
